The children’s future forest

By Susanne Ganns

For several years, the children of the nature school have been planting trees on and around the school land together with their teachers.

Dilbar, whose family have donated the land for the school, and his son Rohit have always been keen to re-green the land and so the “Gharwal Green Project” was born.

Their enthusiasm for the trees spread to the teachers and children and over the years a small wonderful forest has been created.

A future forest of the children.

Consciousness Training
Again and again new elements flow into the lessons in order to maintain, strengthen and promote Integral Learning – which children still bring with them in the finest way.

Here the children sit in the midst of nature and strengthen and sensitize their hearing by listening to nature.
They activate their own inner “sound amplifier” by inwardly forming long ears, like the elephant trunk of Ganesha, and placing these ears into nature.
The children write down these experiences in silent meditation and bring the experiences to class to share with the other students and teachers.
It is amazing and wonderful to observe what children can hear in this way, even a water sound of a river, which is very far away and not visible.

Such Awareness Exercises serve the children for their own sensory perception, as well as to be able to perceive nature in a new way.

Forest Festival 2022

For July and August 2022, the children and their teachers have announced that they will again plant

1000 trees.

Furthermore, in a small specific area, the 5-step planting was started.
This is a pilot project that SHIN – the founding father of the nature school – initiated some time ago.

This planting is done in several stages and with different plant species in such a way that the ground is covered with water-retaining plants and ferns in order to shade the ground and protect it from drying out. Furthermore, bushes and trees are planted, which on the one hand attract insects such as bees, etc., and also serve their own nourishment. This results in a fine interweaving root system underground, which prevents erosion, strengthens soil life and can change the climate in the long term.
