Nature School during the Covid crisis

by Susanne Ganns

Since March 2020 up to September 2021 the Nature School was closed due to the Covid Crisis.

During this time all teachers tried to teach the students by distance learning. Partly this was done via internet. However, it often failed because of poor internet connection or because many children do not have a computer or smartphone. So mostly the teachers brought the homework to the children and picked it up after they had finished it.

The children often asked when the doors of the school would open again. They wanted to meet their friends, play together and learn together.

Many thanks to the teachers and staff
All this work of the teachers made it possible for the children, despite the Covid Crisis, to still maintain their schooling and never lose contact with the teachers.

Teachers and staff voluntarily passed on a part of their salary during the last 1 ½ years. Again and again they have expressed their gratitude for receiving their salaries the whole time although the school was closed.

Many private schools have fired their teachers in order to save on salary costs.

Planting campaigns in July and August 2021
Although the school was closed, a planting campaign was carried out in July 2021 with leaders of the Forestry Department and teachers as well as a few selected students.

Another planting campaign took place only with the teachers and helpers of the school in August. In total about 300 trees and shrubs were planted.

Finally the time had come
On October 1, 2021, the presence schooling could be resumed.
The children, the teachers and all of us were very happy about it.

The children have grown up in these 1 ½ years.
Finally they again could play, laugh and be happy together.

Full of joy, the children sent us many painted Christmas greetings.

They have painted pictures for the new year 2022
and sent us wishes for a happy new year.

Yes, we all hope that it will be a good new year, that the children can continue to go to school and the teachers are allowed to teach again. And that for all of us an end of the global crisis is finally in sight.

All of us doing organisational work also wish you the best for the year 2022
and together with the children and teachers say thank you very much for continuing to donate even in these difficult times and thus supporting the maintaining of the school.
